Welcome to the Institute of Legal Practice and Development (ILPD).
The Institute’s vision is to continue actively collaborating with domestic and international partners to champion excellence in legal practice, foster a spirit of academic inquiry, and contribute to the global advancement of law and justice. Our mission is to offer high quality legal education, professional training, and research in order to propel the fields of law and justice forward in Rwanda and beyond.
Established under Law No. 65/2013, ILPD stands as a cornerstone for domestic and international legal professionals seeking to elevate their skills, knowledge, and expertise.
Whether you're a seasoned legal practitioner aiming to expand your horizons, a justice sector professional seeking to enhance your capabilities, or a dedicated researcher passionate about delving into legal complexities, ILPD provides a diverse array of programs and resources meticulously crafted to meet your requirements.
Through our comprehensive legal education initiatives, we endeavor to equip individuals and institutions alike with the tools to navigate intricate legal landscapes with poise and integrity.
In addition to pioneering research endeavors, ILPD offers a variety of fully accredited programs. The Diploma in Legal Practice (DLP) opens the doors to the legal practice as judge, prosecutor, advocate or in-house counsel. The Diploma in Legal Drafting (DLD) enhances drafters’ skills in principles and techniques of legislative and contract drafting to prevent or, for the least, to mitigate disputes related to semantic issues and the meaning of jargons since words are the indicators of the success of any statutory reform. In addition to these two general curricula, the Institute offers twelve (12) other specialized programs.
Courses are delivered in a friendly and comfortable environment by highly experienced practitioners in Law, Information Technology, Psychology, etc. The Institute emphasizes the role of modern technology, the practice of moot courts, the use of role plays and the relevance of field visits in education. It facilitates mentorship by bringing trainees in contact with senior leaders who offer public lectures or who supervise them during their clerkships. Flexibility is the ILPD’s modus operandi as the Institute caters to each candidate’s schedule by organizing the Executive Mode for Senior Managers, Full-time Mode for fresh law graduates and international students and part-time (weekend and evening) programs for employees. Classes are held at our campuses in Nyanza, Kigali, and Musanze.
ILPD’s alumni are hailed for their competence and professionalism in their home countries all over Africa and beyond. Like an old friend, alumni are our treasure. They are our pride and ambassadors. Join the ILPD family and become a member of a unique community, one which ascribes to the concept of legal fraternity its real meaning. Join the community of brilliant women and men who understand that justice is the greatest concern of man on earth and that it is the bond that holds together civilized humans and nations.
